Forest Road re-surfacing
It is hard not to notice the increased noise from traffic on Forest Road, mostly attributable to lorries thundering down the uneven surface (a hangover from the winter) at high speed. Last week, I contacted KCC asking for the road surface and speed issues to be addressed. I always have been a hopeless optimist….. I was contacted by KCC yesterday (8 April) and received confirmation the the road is scheduled to be re-surfaced in May from the Boundary Road to Warwick Park junctions. Great news! This should make a big difference to noise levels. Sadly, KCC cannot take direct action about speed measures. Whilst the HVA successfully petitioned for the 30mph flashing light to be installed a number of years ago, it strikes me that we need something that will force people to slow down. The obvious answer is a speed camera (speed humps and lorries do not mix in my view) and this would have the added incentive to KCC of generating some income. To achieve this, we would need the backing of the Police. Perhaps something to address at the AGM. JULIA HEPNER
